You can find it mentioned little past halfway.

Does the original Chaitanya Bhagavata have missing sections? Or is it available in full? It would be a shame if it was missing.

Some friends here can find chaitanya Bhagavat slokas in other book and add here.

Even Sripad Gaurangapada Maharaj has already translated some slokas so each sloka can be added until its completed. Then the experts editors can do their work to make perfect.

This may take afew years, then publishing can be done.

       Coming to CB verses with translation, yes, a verse by verse translation is unavailable. But like I said, your wish may come true. It is an elaborate matter to make one such translation, and only a softcopy can be managed. Printing is quite costly for a book of this size.

      03. Do the same for network.http.proxy.pipelining and set it to true

      04. Do the same for network.http.pipeling.ssl and set it to true (v.imp for gmail and encrypted connections). By doing this you can watch your gmail speeds fly. Try attaching a 20 MB file and send it. It took only seconds!

      Very large bandwidth broadband users can set even higher values than these, perhaps upto 100.

      The connections are the most important thing. It may not be immediately noticeable in download. But I can get 350 Kbps while uploading a file, particularly for large files and gmail attachments. This is big when you consider the fact that in my area the regular upload speed is only 25 Kbps per second! An increase of 10 x plus! I can upload 150 Mb files in minutes and gmail attachments of 15 MB in 45 sec even under throttling.

       12000 worded article with lots of pictures on Wikipedia took 2 min 15 sec to load WITHOUT the hack, but only 40 seconds to load WITH the hack.  The weird thing is that it tends to attain top speed after about one week. But immediately you will see a difference.

       You may have to tweak with the connections values to get it optimum, but this range I believe is perfect. Firefox browses about 5-15 x faster on my comp with these hacks. My download speeds have gone up by 10x while uploading is off the scales.

While reading Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata i encountered one verse, which confirms that peacock feather eternally belongs to Lord Gauranga. This verse was spoken by Shrila Shrivasa Thakura while offering prayers to Lord Gauranga at his home (CB, Madhya, Chapter 2, Verse 273):

shaciira nandana-paa'ye mora namaskaara
nava-gunjaa shikhi-puccha bhushana yaanhaara

"I offer my respectful obeisances unto the Lotus Feet of Shachi's son, whose head is decorated with fresh gunja and a peacock feather."

In Shri Gaura Gannodesha Dipika Verse 14, Shrila Kavi Karnapura has described Lord Nityananda and His Associates as "gopala veshinah" means that they always dressed as cowherd boys. The cowherd boys of Shri Vrindavana dress themselves with peacock feathers and other ornaments to participate in the pastimes of Lords Krishna-Balarama. So what to speak of Lord Nityananda Balarama Himself who is the leader of all the cowherd boys? Besides they always imitate the pastimes of Lord Krishna so also they dress themselves up with peacock feathers and forest flowers just like Lord Krishna.

Lord Gauranga's Peacock Feather and Ekadashi Offering -- By Swami Gaurangapada


Dear Devotees,

Jaya Nityananda-Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Shrila Prabhupada, Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta and Shrila Bhaktivinoda! Dandavat Pranams!

There has been lot of discussion on whether the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu wears a peacock feather on His head. It is personally very painful for us to hear that the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu is denied something which is His own energy and paraphernalia.

Those devotees who are immersed in the nectar of Lord Gauranga’s Bhagavatta (or Supreme Godship) as repeatedly described in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata by Paramhansa Vyasa Kusumapida Avatara Shrila Vrindavana Dasa Thakura will have no doubts in this regard that Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu directly accepted and proclaimed Himself as the Supreme Lord Krishna Himself so many times in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata and directly accepted the worship which was meant for Lord Krishna because They both are the same personality.

The devotees who have carefully read Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata will know that the most intimate associate of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu Shrila Murari Gupta Thakura personally witnessed in a dream the transcendental form of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu bedecked with a peacock feather in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata Madhya Khanda 20.16:

nityanaanda murti dekhe yena haladhara;
shire *paakhaa* dhari paache jaaya vishvambhara.

“Shrila Murari Gupta saw in the dream that Lord Nityananda was walking in the front like Lord Haladhara Balarama and Lord Vishvambhara Gauranga was following behind with a peacock feather (paakhaa) adorned on His head.”

This transcendental dream was not ordinary because it is the dream of a Mahabhagavata like Shrila Murari Gupta and secondly this dream was personally orchestrated by Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu Himself who wanted to teach Shrila Murari Gupta how to worship Lord Nityananda before worshiping Himself.

One may argue that it is a dream not a reality so it is less important. Or that Lord Gauranga accepted the peacock feather just for this particular instance to show to Shrila Murari Gupta that He is Lord Krishna and Lord Nityananda is Lord Balarama Himself. But this cannot be a fact.

May we ask that in which scripture has it been said that Lord Gauranga accepting the peacock feather only in this pastime and not otherwise? If He has accepted once, why can’t He can accept the peacock feather on His head again and again? He is the supremely independent (svaraata) Lord. How can the small infinitesimal souls dare to restrict His desires? The form which He displayed to Shrila Murari Gupta in the dream is to be eternally worshiped because the divine form of Lord Gauranga with a peacock feather is factually eternal.

If theoretically we state that offering Him a peacock feather is disturbing His mood as a devotee then even offering Tulasi leaves to His lotus feet is a disturbance to His mood. Why do one and avoid the other? Someone can even extrapolate further and state that even chanting His Holy Names in form of the Gaura Gopala Mantra or the Pancha Tattva Mantra or worshiping His Deity form or reading or glorifying His pastimes where He exhibits Himself as God is a disturbance to Him because He is in the mood of His own devotee.

If this speculation was true then even the most splendid prayers offered to Lord Gauranga by the demigods, Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva, Shrila Jagai and Madhai, Shrila Haridasa Thakura, Shrila Murari Gupta, Shrila Mukunda etc. in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata which repeatedly describe Him as the Supreme Master and Origin of all creation would have disturbed the mood of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu. Why did Shrila Shukadeva Goswami in Prema Vivarta keep on chanting the Holy Name of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu inspite of the Lord forbidding him to do so externally?

Did Shrila Shukadeva Goswami displease Lord Gauranga by doing this? Are all the above great Mahabhagavatas doing nothing but simply disturbing the mood of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu (as a devotee) by their prayers? Never, infact their prayers are the most anukula or favourable to the Lord’s mood and very pleasing to Him and are meant for our ultimate benefit.

Thus if the above misconception is not checked it will mark the beginning of such a dangerous trend with may end up in the greatest misfortune for this world if the world ends up accepting Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga only as devotees which has already happened and is happening among historial scholars and millions of common people in Bengal and Orissa (what to speak of worldwide) which are the very places where Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga had directly performed Their pastimes. Such a misconception has the potential to entirely choke up the advent of the Golden Age which will specifically be brought about by the widespread preaching and acceptance of the Holy Names and Glories of Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga as the Supreme Absolute Truth.

Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu does display broadly two kinds of moods: His mood as God or Krishna Himself and His mood as His own devotee to relish His own love. But both His moods are eternally present in Him. No one can dare to say that one mood is more important than the other.

In His eternal mood of God Himself, He is offered peacock feathers, tulasi leaves and even grain bhoga on Ekadashi and in the mood of a devotee one may not offer these items. But as per the Acharyas for the conditioned souls it is more beneficial to worship Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga as God Themselves first and then later one may properly understand and appreciate Their acceptance of the role of devotees which is very confidential secret.

It is very clearly proved that Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga can be offered grain bhoga on Ekadashi from the pastime of accepting the offering of Shrila Jagadish and Shri Hiranya in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata Adi Khanda 6.21-23:

Translation:

“Jagadish and Hiranya are both great devotees, and I desire something from them. Today is Ekadashi, and they are both fasting. But they have prepared varieties of foodstuffs for Lord Vishnu. If I could eat their offering, I will be cured and able to walk.”

Gaudiya Bhashya Commentary by Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

“The two brahmanas—Jagadish Pandita and Hiranya Pandita—lived in Godrumadvipa. Their house was some distance from the Lord’s house. On the day of Ekadashi they arranged a large offering for the Lord. The injunction for fasting on Ekadashi is meant only for the living entities, but Lord Vishnu is beyond the jurisdiction of the rules and regulations that He has established. Since He is not bound to observe fast on Ekadashi, and since He alone is the enjoyer of all sacrificial offerings, all types of foodstuffs should be offered to Him on Ekadashi. On the day of Ekadashi the Vaishnavas give up all kinds of enjoyment and do not accept the injunction for honoring prasada as on other days, but Lord Shri Hari, the protector of the devotees, accepts the foodstuffs offered by His devotees on His day, Hari-vasara. Shri Gaura-Narayana also revealed His desire to eat those foodstuffs.” (Translated and published by Vrajaraja Press)

Thus Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada clearly states that Lord Gauranga-Narayana is independent to accept grain offerings on Ekadashi and He can be offered all kinds of grain offerings on Ekadashi with love and devotion by His devotees.

Regarding offering grains to Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga on Ekadashi, Shrila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada said that one may not offer Them grains if one wants to worship Them as devotees. He never said one should not or one cannot.

Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada recommended the reading of Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata first which strongly establishes Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga as the Supreme Lords Themselves and the object of our worship not just simply devotees.

And then when one becomes fixed in the worship of Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda Gauranga as God by the reading of Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata, then one should go on to read Shri Chaitanya Charitamrita where there are so many pastimes describing Their super-excellent mood of acting as Their own devotees. That is why Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada stated that Shri Chaitanya Charitamrita is a supplement to Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata in his Gaudiya Bhashya introduction to Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata.

Lord Gauranga directly accepted the bhoga three times which the traveling brahmana had cooked for his Lord Gopala Krishna and He personally and directly accepted the worship of His devotees by sitting on altar of Lord Krishna during the Maha Prakash pastime as described in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata. There are infinite other pastimes where Lord Gauranga displayed His actual mood of being the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Krishna Himself which we will not go into now due to fear of a lack of brevity.

Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada states in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata Madhya Khanda 3.8-17 purport:

"Sometimes He would proudly manifest His opulence, smile, and exclaim, 'I am He.' If Lord Gauranga reveals Himself as God to people, there is no deviation from the truth. But if demoniac offenders try to ruin themselves by accepting the statement, 'Everyone is God,' then they will never be benefited."

Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata Adi 6.58:

aro bole,- “kare dhyana kara, ei dekha
kali-yuge ‘narayana’ muni paratekha”

Even in His childhood Lord Gauranga clearly described His own Tattva to a brahmana who was meditating in the water of the Ganges, "Who are you meditating on? In Kali-yuga I am directly Lord Narayana and you should meditate and worship Me directly."

Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata Madhya 22.15-17:

nija murti shila saba kari nija kole;
apana prakase gauracandra kutuhale.

Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu sat on the throne of Lord Vishnu because He is actually the origin of all Vishnus. He took all His own salagrama-sila forms on His lap and very joyfully revealed Himself as follows.

muni kali-yuge krishna muni narayana;
muni rama rupe kailun sagara bandhana.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga declared: "In Kali-Yuga, I am Krishna and I am Narayana. In the form of Rama, I built a bridge to cross over the ocean."

sutiya achilun ksira sagara bhitare
mora nidra bhangileka nadara hunkare

"I was sleeping in the milk ocean as Kshirodakashayi Vishnu in My Yoga Nidra, but My sleep was broken by the loud cries of Shrila Advaita Acharya."

Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata, Madhya 23.286-287:

akapate krsne kahaye apane
muni deba narayane
kamsasura mari'  muni se kamsari
boli choliya baman

"Assuming His actual mood, Lord Gauranga personally declared, "I am Lord Narayana. As Lord Krishna when I killed the demon Kamsa, I became known as Kamsari. It is Me who became Vamana and cheated Bali."

muni se raghaba-ray
koriya hunkar  tattwa apanar
kohi' cari-dige ca'y

Lord Gauranga continued: "I built the bridge over the ocean. I killed Ravana. I am Ramacandra, king of the Raghavas." Loudly declaring the truth about Himself, Lord Gauranga looked in the four directions.

"samharimu saba" bali' karaye hunkara
"muni sei, muni sei" bale bare-bara

Lord Gauranga roared loudly, saying, "I will personally kill all the atheists and demons who haress or ridicule my devotees." He repeatedly exclaimed, "I am He, I am He, the Supreme Personality of Godhead."

Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata Adi 6.61-62:

Another brahmana said: "I kept the ingredients for worshiping Vishnu-flowers, durva grass, bhoga, sandalwood pulp, and the Lord's asana-on the bank of the Ganges. When I went to take bath your son Gauranga sat on the Lord's asana, ate the bhoga, smeared Himself with the sandalwood pulp, decorated Himself with the flowers, and ran off. Then He said, 'Why are you unhappy? He for whom you arranged those ingredients has Himself enjoyed them.'"

Some strangely claim that since Lord Gauranga is Lord Krishna in the mood of Shrimati Radharani so one should worship Him only as the topmost Vaishnava or Guru but not God Himself. But if this was the case Lord Gauranga would not have spoken the above verses establishing His own position, name and worship in Kali Yuga. Nor would He have shown His 6-handed form to Lord Nityananda and Shrila Sarvabhauma or His 8-handed form to the brahmana or His Universal or 4-handed from to Lord Advaita Acharya or His Yugala form of Radha-Krishna to Shrila Ramananda Raya if He did not want the devotees to worship Him as God.

Since sometimes He played the role of a devotee and sometimes as the Lord, He externally may have shown His apparent displeasure about His own worship when He was in the mood of the devotee. But so many times He directly played His original role of God also. All the moods of the Lord are eternal and cannot be rejected but have to be worshiped.

In both these cases all His associates have worshiped Him as the Supreme Lord and offered exquisite prayers to Him directly as the Supreme Lord as found all over Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata. Even when Lord Gauranga was externally in the mood of His own devotee, His associates have directly worshiped Him as God leaving aside the consideration whether it disturbs His mood or not because it never actually disturbs His mood even though He may apparently show external displeasure.

An example of this is the pastime where Lord Advaita Acharya and Lord Nityananda Prabhu were loudly chanting and proclaiming Lord Gauranga’s Holy Names inspite of the apparent external displeasure of Lord Gauranga and the the subsequent conversation of Shrila Shrivasa Thakura and Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu where the Lord has to accept the glories of chanting and preaching of His own Holy Names.

Those who say that one mood and pastimes of the Lord in that mood (for eg. the mood of His own devotee) are more important than another mood and pastimes of the Lord in that mood (for eg. His original mood of God Himself) are differenciating between the eternal and transcendental pastimes of the Lord and accepting only the mood which is convenient to them and thus not accepting the Lord fully.

There is a verse in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata which states very clearly that Lord Gauranga in His pastimes sometimes accepts role of God Himself and sometimes the role of the topmost devotee. When He is the mood of God, He instructs everyone to chant His own Name and when He is in the mood of His own devotee, He instructs everyone to chant His Name of Krishna. So both of His orders should be followed. One of His orders cannot be minimized or rejected.

In the manifest pastimes in this material world since He comes to teach His own bhakti He many times assumed the role of a devotee. In the unmanifest and eternal pastimes (nitya lila) in the spiritual world, He is constantly worshiped by all the residents of Navadvipa and Vrindavana as the Supreme Personality of Godhead as described in Shri Chaitanya Mangala by Shrila Lochana Dasa Thakura. Shrila Narada Muni personally saw the Mahabhishekha of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu being conducted in Goloka by Shrimati Radharani and the all gopies of Vrindavana on one side and Shrimati Rukmini and all the queens of Dvaraka on the other side.

If Lord Gauranga should not be worshiped as God even though He is God Himself then why do Lord Nityananda Prabhu, Lord Advaita Acharya and all His great associates including Shiva, Brahma, demigods etc. worship Him repeatedly with sixteen ingredients (shodasha seva) and boldly and emphatically declare to the world in all the scriptures to accept and worship Lord Gauranga as the Supreme Personality of Godhead and chant His Name constantly?

Why did all the acharyas establish the Deities of Their Lordships Shri Shri Nityananda-Gauranga and instruct all their followers to worship and serve Them in the same way as Their Lordships Shri Shri Radha Krishna and Krishna-Balarama? This is because They are totally non-different, They are the same personalities and should be worshiped as God because They are God.

To conclude this essay, we would like to state that if Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu wanted to hide Himself as God, He would have never manifested the topmost sapta prahariya (21 hours) Maha-Prakasha Lila where He accepted all worship and offerings of His intimate devotees as described in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata Madhya Chp 9:

“On another day, the Lord came to Shrivasa Thakura's house, accompanied by Nityananda Prabhu. After all the devotees had assembled, the Lord began looking around Him in the mood of a great king surveying His entourage. Understanding His mood, the devotees began a rousing kirtana.

On other days, the Lord would dance in ecstasy, in the mood of a devotee. Then, changing His mood, He would reveal Himself as the Omnipotent Supreme Lord. But again, that mood would change, and He would revert back to the mood of being a devotee. One day, when the Lord stood up to dance as usual, instead of doing so, He went and sat on Lord Vishnu's throne. Previously, He had sat upon the throne while immersed in devotional ecstasy, but this day was different, for He sat upon the altar purposely. Lord Gauranga sat continuously for twenty-one hours, so that the pastime became known as “saat-prahariya-bhava”, “the ecstasy of twenty-one hours”.                           

The devotees stood before the Lord with folded hands, and they felt as if they were residing in the spiritual world. Vishvambhara sat like the Lord of Vaikuntha, and indeed, no one could feel the influence of the illusory energy. Lord Gauranga instructed, "Sing the bathing song" and so the devotees responded. As the devotees sang, the Lord moved His head side to side rhythmically while showering His servants with merciful glances.

To perform the abhisheka, the devotees brought water from the Ganga. First of all, they strained the water and then they added musk, sandalwood paste, camphor and saffron. Nityananda Prabhu was the first to pour water over the Lord's head, while chanting, "jaya, jaya".

Other leading devotees, such as Advaita Acharya and Shrivasa Pandita then bathed the Lord while chanting the "Purusha-sukta" prayers. The devotees of Lord Gauranga are very well-versed in shastra and the chanting of mantras. The Lord remained seated while the devotees came, one by one, and bathed Him. Usually, on such occasions, 108 water pots were utilized but on this day, the number far exceeded this. At this time, the demigods came there, but they were disguised so as not to be recognized.

Shrivasa's servants and maidservants were engaged in bringing water. A maidservant named Dukhi (meaning, "one who is sad") was one of the water carriers. Seeing her thus engaged, the Lord told her, "Bring more, bring more". Indeed, He was so impressed with her attitude of devotional service that He changed her name to Sukhi (meaning, "one who is happy"), thus indicating that He had taken away all of her material distress.

After bathing the Lord, the devotees dried His body, dressed Him in new clothes and smeared His body with sandalwood paste. The area was then cleaned and worship with sixteen customary items was arranged. Sandalwood paste mixed with tulasi manjaris was offered to the lotus feet of the Lord while the Gopala mantra of ten syllables was chanted.

Afterwards, all of the devotees fell down like sticks at the Lord's lotus feet to offer obeisances. Feeling great love for the Lord, tears falling from their eyes, the devotees prayed, "All glories to the Lord of the universe. Kindly direct Your merciful glance toward the people of this world, who are oppressed by the three-fold miseries. You have appeared within this world to inaugurate the congregational chanting of the holy name of the Lord."

"All glories to Lord Gauranga, the redeemer of the most fallen souls and the supreme shelter of the meek and poor. All glories to Lord Gauranga, who does not see the faults of the living entities, although He is the husband of the goddess of fortune." The devotees were drowning in an ocean of ecstasy, for the Lord had mercifully lifted the veil of maya from within their hearts and offered to them His lotus feet, to be worshiped.

Some devotees brought perfumed oil and smeared it over the Lord's lotus feet and others worshiped Him with offerings of tender tulasi leaves. Some devotees brought precious gems and articles of silver and gold and offered them while falling down at the Lord's lotus feet. Indeed, the number of gifts was countless. There were variously colored silk clothes and varieties of metal containers.

Due to their having served a pure devotee, all of Shrivasa's household servants now had the opportunity to directly serve the Lord's lotus feet. They offered many articles of worship without fear or hesitation because the Lord had put aside His mood of awe and reverence. Each one worshiped the Lord according to his heart's inclination, placing unhusked rice, tulasi, darba grass, musk, saffron, camphor, sandalwood, and varieties of fruit and flowers at His lotus feet.

Shri Gauranga Mahaprabhu then told the devotees, holding out His hand, "Bring Me something-I want to eat." Upon hearing this, the devotees hurriedly went and brought a variety of food-bananas, mung dal, dahi, sweetened condensed milk, butter, and milk. They placed their offerings in the Lord's hands, and He ate everything. Some of the devotees ran to the market and returned with the choicest food. They offered the Lord coconuts, varieties of sweets, blackberries, melons and sugar cane.   Some people brought water from the Ganga. Indeed, hundreds of devotees brought hundreds of liters of Ganga water and the Lord, who is the greatest mystic, drank it all.

Hundreds of pots of dahi, sweetened condensed milk, and milk- hundreds of bunches of bananas, mountains of sweets-all were immediately consumed as the astonished devotees looked on with gaping mouths.”

I offer my respectful obeisances unto Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Nityananda Prabhu, whose arms extend down to Their knees, who have golden yellow complexions, and who inaugurated the congregational chanting of the holy names of the Lord. Their eyes resemble the petals of a lotus flower; They are the maintainers of the living entities, the best of the brahmanas, the protectors of religious principles for this age, the benefactors of the universe, and the most merciful of all incarnations.

O my Lord! You are eternally existing—in the past, present, and future—yet You are the son of Sri Jagannatha Misra. As soon as Sri Gaurasundara returned from Gaya, the entire city of Nadia was filled with the news.

dhailena yata saba apta-varga ache
keha age, keha majhe, keha ati pache
All the Lord's friends and relatives came running to see Him, some came in front, some came in the middle, and some came far behind.

yatha-yogya kaila prabhu sabare sambhasha
visvambhare dekhi' sabe haila ullasa
The Lord spoke befittingly with everyone, and they all became jubilant on seeing Visvambhara.
TEXT 13
aguvadi' sabe anilena nija-ghare
tirtha-katha sabare kahena visvambhare
They all greeted the Lord and accompanied Him home, where Visvambhara narrated the topics of His pilgrimage.
The word aguvadi' means “coming before to greet” or “arriving before.”

prabhu bale,—“toma' sabakara asirvade
gaya-bhumi dekhiya ainu nirvirodhe”
The Lord said, “By the blessings of all of you, I have visited the abode of Gaya without any difficulty.”
TEXT 15
parama sunamra hai' prabhu katha kaya
sabe tushta haila dekhi' prabhura vinaya
The Lord spoke with such great humility that everyone became fully satisfied.
TEXT 16
sire hasta diya keha `cirajivi' kare
sarva-ange hasta diya keha mantra pade
Someone placed his hand on the Lord's head and said, “Live a long life.” Someone else touched His various limbs while chanting mantras.
TEXT 17
keha vakshe hasta diya kare asirvada
“govinda sitalananda karuna prasada”
Someone placed their hand on the Lord's chest and blessed Him with the words: “May Govinda bestow blissful soothing mercy on You.”

haila ananda-mayi saci bhagyavati
putra dekhi' harishe na jane ache kati
The most fortunate mother Saci was filled with joy and forgot herself while seeing her son.

lakshmira janaka kule ananda uthila
pati-mukha dekhiya lakshmira duhkha gela
The parents and relatives of Lakshmi became most happy, and Lakshmi's distress was vanquished as she looked at the face of her husband.

sakala vaishnava-gana harisha haila
dekhite-o sei-kshane keha keha gela
All the Vaishnavas became pleased. Some of them immediately went to see the Lord.

sabakare kari' prabhu vinaya-sambhasha

The Lord humbly spoke to everyone, and after taking leave they all returned to their homes.

vishnu-bhakta guti-dui-cari-jana laiya

The Lord then took a few devotees to a solitary place to discuss some confidential topics.

The Lord said, “O friends, please hear about the wonders of Krishna that I have seen.

“As soon as I entered the abode of Gaya, I heard the most auspicious sounds.

“Thousands and thousands of brahmanas were reciting prayers from the Vedas. They said, `Come and see the holy spot where Lord Vishnu washed His lotus feet.'

“When Krishna previously visited Gaya, He washed His feet at that place.

“The Ganges became glorious due to being touched by the lotus feet of the Lord, and Lord Siva realized those glories by holding that water on his head. By the influence of that water that has washed the Lord's feet this place has become famous by the name Padodaka-tirtha.”

pada-padma-tirthera laite prabhu nama
ajhare jharaye dui kamala-nayana
As soon as the Lord repeated the name of Pada-padma-tirtha, tears began to incessantly flow from His eyes.

seshe prabhu hailena bada asambara
`krishna' bali' kandite lagila bahutara
Eventually the Lord lost all composure and called out the name of Krishna as He cried profusely.

bharila pushpera vana mahaprema-jale
mahasvasa chadi' prabhu `krishna krishna' bale
The flower garden was inundated with tears of love, and the Lord sighed deeply while chanting the name of Krishna.

pulake purnita haila sarva-kalevara
sthira nahe prabhu kampa-bhare thara-thara
The Lord's entire body was decorated with hairs standing on end, and He was unable to remain still as His body began to intensely shiver.

sriman pandita-adi yata bhakta-gana
dekhena apurva krishna-premera krandana
Sriman Pandita and the other devotees all watched as the Lord cried out of intense love for Krishna.

catur-dike nayane bahaye prema-dhara

Tears of love flowed from the Lord's eyes in all directions as if the Ganges had appeared there.

mane mane sabei cintena camatkara
“e-mata ihane kabhu nahi dekhi ara
Everyone there was struck with wonder and thought, “We have never before seen Him like this.

sri-krishnera anugraha haila ihane

“He must have received the mercy of Lord Krishna, or perhaps He has seen something wonderful on the way.”

After a short while, the Lord regained His external consciousness and began to speak to everyone present there.

The Lord said, “O friends, please return home today. I will tell you where you may come and meet Me tomorrow.

After speaking to everyone, Visvambhara bid them goodbye and then performed His duties.

Mother Saci could not understand the conduct of her son, yet she was overjoyed to see Him.

As the Lord wept, He cried out the name of Krishna. His mother saw that the courtyard was flooded with tears.

“kotha krishna! kotha krishna!”—balaye thakura
balite balite prema badaye pracura
The Lord cried out, “Where is Krishna? Where is Krishna?” While calling out in this way, His love incessantly increased.

kichu nahi bujhe ai kon va karana
kara-yode laila ai govinda-sarana
His mother could not understand anything, therefore she sought the protection of Govinda with folded hands.

arambhila mahaprabhu apana-prakasa
ananta brahmanda-maya haila ullasa
As the Supreme Lord began to manifest Himself, innumerable universes rejoiced.

`prema-vrishti karite prabhura subharambha'

All the devotees immediately came there as they heard about the auspicious beginning of the Lord's distribution of love.
Being compassionate to the living entities, the Lord began to shower love of God at an auspicious moment. As soon as this news was circulated, the devotees immediately came to see Him

ye-saba vaishnava gela prabhu-darasane
sambhasha karila prabhu tan' sabara sane
All the Vaishnavas who came to see the Lord were warmly greeted by Him.

“kali suklambara-ghare miliba asiya
mora duhkha nivedimu nibhrite vasiya”
“Meet tomorrow at Suklambara's house, where I will submit My sorrows to you in seclusion.”
TEXT 51
harishe purnita haila sriman-pandita
dekhiya adbhuta prema maha harashita
Sriman Pandita was filled with joy. He was delighted on seeing the wonderful manifestation of love.

yatha kritya kari' ushah-kale saji laiya
calila tulite pushpa harashita haiya
After performing his duties early the next morning, he took a basket and happily went to collect flowers.

eka kunda gacha ache srivasa-mandire
kunda-rupe kiba kalpa-taru avatare
In the house of Srivasa there was a kunda flower tree that appeared like the incarnation of a kalpa-vriksha.

yateka vaishnava tole tulite na pare
akshaya avyaya pushpa sarva-kshana dhare
The Vaishnavas picked as many flowers as they liked, but the supply of flowers always remained inexhaustible and undiminished.

ushah-kale uthiya sakala bhakta-gana
pushpa tulibare asi' haila milana
After rising in the morning, all the devotees would regularly meet there to gather flowers.
TEXT 56
sabei tolena pushpa krishna-katha rase
gadadhara, gopinatha, ramani, srivase
Gadadhara, Gopinatha, Ramai, and Srivasa all picked flowers while discussing topics of Krishna.
TEXT 57
henai samaye asi' sriman-pandita
hasite hasite asi' haila vidita
At that moment, Sriman Pandita arrived there with a smile on his face.

sabei balena,—“aji bada dekhi hasya?”
sriman kahena,—“ache karana avasya”
They all said, “It seems you are very happy today?” Sriman Pandita replied, “There is, of course, a good reason.”

sriman-pandita bale,—“sunaha karana
The devotees said, “Please explain.” Sriman Pandita then said, “Please hear the reason.

“A most wonderful and most impossible incident has occurred; Nimai Pandita has become the greatest Vaishnava.

“Hearing that He has happily returned from Gaya, I went to greet Him yesterday afternoon.

“Everything He said revealed His utmost aversion to the world. He did not display any arrogance for even a moment.

“In a secluded place He began to speak about Krishna and the wonders that He had witnessed at various places.

pada-padma-tirthera laite matra nama

“As soon as He mentioned the name of Pada-padma-tirtha, the place became filled with His tears.

sarva anga maha-kampa pulake purnita
`ha krishna!' baliya matra padila bhumita
“His entire body began to tremble and all the hairs on His body stood on end. Calling out, `O Krishna!' He fell to the ground.

kata-kshane bahya-drishti haila camakita
“When He fell unconscious, there was no sign of life in His body. Then, after a while, He regained His external consciousness with a sudden jerk.

The pillar of the house broke under the pressure of the Lord. As He fell on the ground, His hair scattered and He lamented, “Where is Krishna?”

After some time Visvambhara regained His external consciousness and began to cry loudly and piteously while calling out the name of Krishna.

“O Krishna, O My Lord! Where have You gone?” Saying this, the Lord again fell to the ground.

The son of Saci cried out of love for Krishna, and all the devotees surrounding the Lord also cried loudly.

Again and again the Lord fell to the ground with great force, but due to ecstatic love He could not feel anything.

There arose the combined sounds of chanting and weeping as the house of Suklambara became filled with love of God.

After some time Visvambhara became pacified and sat down, yet the tears of ecstatic love continued to flow.

The Lord inquired, “Who is inside the room?” Suklambara Brahmacari replied, “It is Your Gadadhara.”

Gadadhara bent his head down and cried. Seeing this, Lord Visvambhara became greatly satisfied.

The Lord said, “O Gadadhara, you are indeed most fortunate. From your childhood you have had a strong inclination for Krishna.

“I have simply passed My life in useless endeavors. Although I received an invaluable jewel, I have lost it by the arrangement of providence.”

After saying this, Visvambhara again fell to the ground, and His entire body, which is worshipable to everyone, became covered with dust.

The Lord repeatedly regained consciousness and repeatedly fell unconscious. Although He hit the ground with His nose and face, He was protected by providence.

He could not open His eyes due to excessive tears of love. Other than the name of Krishna, nothing issued from His beautiful mouth.

Grasping the necks of those present, Visvambhara wept and asked, “O brothers, tell Me quickly, where is Krishna?”

Seeing the earnest longing of the Lord, all the devotees cried. They were all unable to speak.

The Lord said, “Please relieve My distress. Bring Me the son of Maharaja Nanda.”

After saying this, the Lord sighed deeply and wept repeatedly. His hair was not bound and trailed on the ground.

The Lord constantly recited verses and cried as He continually implored, “Where is Krishna? Where is Krishna?”

Sometimes He roared loudly in such a way that Vishnupriya-devi ran away in fear and Saci became frightened.

Due to feelings of separation from Krishna, the Lord could not sleep at night. He would feel so uncomfortable that sometimes He would get up from bed, sometimes He would lie down, and sometimes He would just sit there.

Upon regaining consciousness, Visvambhara repeatedly exclaimed, “Go on reciting,” as He rolled on the ground.

uthila samudra krishna-sukha manohara
The Lord said, “Chant, chant,” and the pious brahmana continued reciting. Thus an enchanting ocean of happiness in Krishna consciousness manifest.

asru-kampa-pulaka-sakala suvidita
The earth became soaked with the tears of the Lord, who manifest ecstatic symptoms like tears, shivering, and hairs standing on end.
The word suvidita means “they were clearly manifest.”

pade bhakti-sloka bhakti-sane kari' ranga
When the pious brahmana saw the Lord's great happiness, he recited the verses with increased devotion.

Seeing his devoted recitation of Srimad Bhagavatam, the Lord became pleased and embraced him.

Being embraced by the Lord of Vaikuntha, Ratnagarbha became filled with love of God.

Ratnagarbha wept aloud as he clasped the Lord's feet. Thus the brahmana was ensnared in the network of Lord Caitanya's love.

“bala bala” bale prabhu hunkara kariya
As the brahmana repeatedly recited verses with love and devotion, the Lord loudly exclaimed, “Go on reciting, go on reciting.”

On seeing this, the townspeople were struck with wonder and offered their obeisances with respect.

After some time, Visvambhara took leave of everyone and returned home.

The Lord's explanations did not deal with anything that was not related to Krishna. He explained every word in relation to Krishna's devotional service.

The students inquired, “What is the definition of dhatu?” The Lord replied, “That which indicates Krishna's energy.

“The energy of Krishna dwells in the body of every living entity as the dhatu, or active principle. All affection and devotion is meant for Him alone. Due to illusion, teachers cannot understand this. Yet consider carefully whether I am right or wrong. There are persons to whom we now offer obeisances and respects, but when the active principle leaves their bodies, we must take bath after touching them. The son who was happily nourished on the lap of his father touches the fire of cremation to the mouth of his father after the active principle leaves him. That which is called dhatu is the power of Krishna, the beloved of all. Is there anyone who can deny this?

The students replied, “Your explanations were correct. The purport of all scriptures is that Krishna is the Absolute Truth.

After speaking in this way, all the students offered respects to the Lord with folded hands and then tied up their books with cords.

The students loudly chanted `Hari, Hari,' and then the crest jewel of the twice-born embraced everyone with tears in His eyes.

The students cried with their heads down, as they all merged in the ocean of transcendental bliss.

Although the Vedas describe the “appearance” and “disappearance” of Lord Caitanya, there is actually no beginning or end to His pastimes.

In this way the Lord's scholastic pastimes came to an end and the congregational chanting of the holy names was begun.

The students surrounding the Lord were choked with tears as He mercifully spoke to them.

“You have studied and listened for many days; now let us chant the names of Krishna together to make everything complete.”

The students asked, “How shall we perform sankirtana?” The son of Saci taught them by His own example.

The Lord then demonstrated for His students the process of kirtana by clapping His hands while chanting.

Absorbed in the sweet taste of His own name, the Lord rolled in the dust under its overpowering influence.

The Lord repeatedly fell down here and there while crying out, “Chant, chant.” The earth cracked under His repeated falls.

On hearing the sound of the uproar, all the inhabitants of Nadia came running to the residence of the Lord.

When the devotees saw the Lord overwhelmed with ecstasy, they were struck with wonder and began to contemplate. They became fully satisfied at heart, thinking, “Now kirtana has been inaugurated in the town of Nadia. Is there such rare devotion in the world? The purpose of the eyes is fulfilled by the sight of such devotion. This Visvambhara was the ultimate limit of all arrogance. Now we have seen love of God that is rare for even persons like Narada. If such an arrogant person can attain such devotion, then we cannot understand the will of Krishna or what this person will become.

After a while Lord Visvambhara regained His external consciousness, but He continually chanted the name of Krishna.

bahya haile o bahya-katha nahi kaya

Although the Lord regained His external consciousness, He did not talk of external subjects. Rather, He cried while holding the necks of all the Vaishnavas.

Thereafter, all the Vaishnavas pacified the Lord and departed in great delight.

Seeing these products as simply illusion, he avoids entanglement with the modes of nature, although constantly among them. Because the modes of nature and their products are simply not real, he does not accept them.

What is the use of a big education or the practice of austerities and renunciation, and what is the use of studying religious scriptures, of living in solitude and silence, if, after all that, one's mind is stolen by a woman?

Dear devotees,

    Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna! My humble pranams and obeisances!

    Chaitanya Bhagavata is the real treasure trove of devotion and contains the key to awakening Gaura bhakti in the hearts of all living entities. It is such pleasure to read and listen to these pastimes again and again. I would like to share with you one insight I got on Madhya Khanda Chapter 20.

     When Murari Gupta approached Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityananda, he offered obeisances to Lord Gauranga first. Lord Gauranga then corrected him in a dream saying that Lord Nityananda is older. But why did it appear like a 'violation' of etiquette? Murari Gupta is one of the greatest authorities of nyaya shastra in his own right and Lord Chaitanya regularly argued logic with him in his scholarly pastimes. He knows very well all the codes of etiquette.

     One layer of understanding is that Murari Gupta knew Lord Gauranga was the original source of all sources and Lord Nityananda is his expansion, so he offered obeisances to Lord Gauranga first. But this understanding was more of a logical sequence to me rather than a realization.

     But by the Lord's mercy another insight came which was so wonderful. Murari Gupta knows very well that Lord Nitaai is older to Lord Gaura by 12 years, why did he offer obeisances to Lord Gauranga first? The answer is that Murari Gupta is actually none other than Hanuman, the dearest servant of Lord Rama. He is totally devoted to Lord Ramachandra and according to his devotion Lord Gaurachandra reveals himself as Lord Rama to Murari.

     When Murari came to see the two Lords, he saw them as Lord Rama (Gauranga) and Lakshmana (Nityananda). Lakshmana is the younger brother in Rama lila so Murari offered obeisances to Lord Rama first, then he offered obeisances to Lakshmana. When asked about it, he said that he only followed the internal mood of Hanuman in his heart.

      Lord Gaurachandra was very pleased internally to see the devotion of Murari Gupta, but he also desired to reveal the speciality of this incarnation to him. In his dream Lord Gauranga appeared as Krishna and Lord Nitaai as Balarama to show Murari Gupta some truth about their forms of Krishna and Balarama. He wanted to show Murari Gupta that Krishna being the original source of all expansions, when he descends, all his incarnations including Lord Rama, Lord Vishnu, Lord Narasimha and all other expansions enter into him. Therefore in this incarnation, Lord Nityananda is Balarama with Lakshmana having entered into him and he is Krishna with Lord Rama's forms entered into him. At the time when Lord Gauranga appears, he takes precedence over all his expansions which bow before him and surrender all their opulences to him. Therefore, actually it is Lord Nityananda who is elder and Lord Gauranga who is younger being Balarama and Krishna respectively.

       Lord Gaura also revealed something about the mood of Krishna lila to Murari who is from Rama lila, telling him that Lord Ramachandra has entered into him and therefore the mood of Gaura Nitaai has taken over that of Lord Ramachandra-Lakshmana. The mood of Lord Rama and Lakshmana has now been superseded by that Lord Krishna Balarama as they are the original source of Lord Rama and Lakshmana and it is this relationship that is predominant in the pastimes of Gaura lila. It's very inconceivable to logic, but in the spiritual pastimes, the mood is what matters over the tattva. Now the Lord's original mood manifests over that of his expansions and therefore that is the mood that has to be given predominance.

       Realising the glories of Lord Nitaai, Murari Gupta got up and chanted "Nityananda! Nityananda!" over and over again as he saw that in this incarnation, Lord Nitaai is the older brother and so next time he offered obeisances to Lord Nityananda first then to Lord Gauranga. Now he said, "My Lord I only follow." Previously he followed his internal mood, now he followed the same mood that the Lord was openly manifesting as he revealed it to him showing that a devotee has no other desire accept to follow the Lord as He desires.

       Yet another realization from this is that seeing the Lord externally in person is indeed superior to seeing him internally in meditation. Murari Gupta always keeps Rama and Lakshmana in his heart literally so. In Ayodhya (Ramayana Uttara Khanda) he tore his heart open only to reveal that. But now Lord Gaura and Nitaai went into his heart and then when Murari Gupta left for home, Lord Nitaai Gaura stayed in his heart, as they do eternally always. Really these pastimes are all eternal!

       In Rama Lila Lakshmana always kept himself as a humble servant trying to hide behind Lord Rama. So in Gaura lila Lord Gauranga has kept it reverse so that the glories of Lord Nityananda can be revealed to all of existence and to all living entities.  It only goes to re-iterate the earlier realization I had that Lord Nityananda can be revealed only by Lord Gauranga's mercy. It is Lord Chaitanya who again and again reveals Lord Nityananda's glories everywhere. To understand the truth about Lord Nitaai, one has to get Lord Gauranga's mercy.

        The verse which says that only Hanuman received such mercy from Lord Ramachandra was the verse that revealed all this to me.

       How many truths of spiritual mellows are hidden in Chaitanya Bhagavata! It reveals the mood of every incarnation of Godhead and how all the devotees of all different mellows are united in one mellow in Gaura lila. This also shows the mercy of Lord Gauranga -- he reveals his topmost orignal form to devotees of all different moods and abodes and pastimes. Which is why they all experienced even more bliss than in their own unique lila. It is a fact that the bliss of all the Lord's expansions can be realized in the single form of Lord Gaurachandra himself. Everything is included in Him.

        How merciful is the Lord to reveal to this most useless wretch a glimpse of the heart of Murari Gupta, who is the first servant of Lord Gauranga-Ramachandra. It was so beautiful to get a glimpse of all these truths in one moment. I am not able to properly express my amazement at how many oceans of realization lie with a 2 line sloka of the Chaitanya Bhagavata. Lord Nityananda dictated the Chaitanya Bhagavata and his words have unlimited potency. Hidden under the mask of extreme simplicity is an unlimited ocean.

        I only share these realizations to you devotees because it is my desire to give you back atleast one drop of what you have given me with my incompetent ability. I only want to please you and give you a lot of bliss through this.

        All this is only due to the mercy of Hadai Nityananda Dasa prabhu and Swamiji who have so mercifully brought me to spiritual life. I am unable to express my gratitude to them -- for all that they have helped. Jaya Murari Gupta! Jaya Gurudeva!

       In the international website the total set is $133. Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta's purports to CB are so nectarian and detailed. He even explains the Bengali so that people may understand.

        We have purchased all the 7 volumes from India where it is much cheaper ($42 total) and it is incomparable nectar with all the original verses.

Sri Vrndavan das Thakura

We all love to read Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat for me it much sweeter then Sri Krsna Lila, and not so difficult to read as Sri Chaitanya caritamrita. I first read this book in 1998 as I was given photo copy of the complete book.

When I got my computer a few months later I started searching the internet other translations of the same book. Around the year 2000 I bought the one volume English translation.

Over the years I was still searching for a complete English translation with slokas, and a far as I know there is only one complete translation being made, and I had a few volumes.  I did not like them.

Srila AC Bhakti Vedanta Swami Prabhupada my diksh guru was empowered by Lord Nityananda Prabhu to spread Gauranga Krsna consciousness all over the world, and translate books with his purports.

Since his leaving his earthly pass time's others have tried to translate in the same vain. When I read I would like to read Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat as it is; verse by verse; this way I would get the feel of Sri Vrndavan das Thakura telling his story of Sri Nitai Gaurangas pass times.

As with the English Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat translation I hardly ever put it down until I finished it. Such nectar on every page.

The purport translated Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat version; it was very hard to follow the flow of the book even if I just reading the slokas and translation of the book it became too much for me turning three or more page untill he next sloka.

All these years and we are still waiting for a completed Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat with slokas.

My humble request please some one complete the sloka translation of Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat.

The bengali Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat is almost pocket size.

I would like to annouce a new site by some devotees on the lila's that have manifested in ISKCON Mayapura.

Lord Nrsimhadeva in Mayapura has manifested many lila's outside the texts of the Vedas.  At first people thought they were coincidences, but as it became a repeatable occurence, this has caught the mind of many devotees.

Now they are presenting a website to list some of the lila's that Lord Nrsimhadeva has manifested.

The surprising thing about this Nrsimhadeva is that it is an Ugra Nrsimhadeva, and not just that, a Sthanu Nrsimhadeva. A Sthanu Nrsimahdeva is the form the Lord manifests when he first steps out of the pillar, the most angriest of forms. Not even the devas in Svargaloka dare to worship this form. One has to be very pure to do so.

So one may ask how it is possible that we personalities manifested in Kali-Yuga can worship this Sthanu Nrsimhadeva?

The answer is simple: Lord Gauranga!

It is said that when adding more svarupa's of the Lord in a certain place, the svarupa's, being none-different from the Lord, inherits the mood of the predominating deity of that place, and in our case, it's none other than Lord Chaitanya.

Lord Chaitanya is guna-grahi,or He who sees the good quality in others, and He is also known as adosa-darsi, or He who never looks at the bad qualities of others, and Lord Nrsimha has now adopted this very same mood. The once very strict Ugra Sthanu Lord Nrsimha is now freely distributing His mercy to all devotees who worship and satisfy him; and just as Lord Chaitanya is easy to satisfy, so is now Lord Nrsimha in Mayapura.

Lord Nrsimhadeva ki jaya!
Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu ki jaya!

On a side note, I can't wait until they install a Nrsimha deity in Ekachakra, the Holy Dham of the MOST merciful Lord Nityananda!
